Exercise : Histograms

HISTOGRAMS

The purpose of this exercise is to familiarise yourself with histograms by relating each one to the image you have just taken, helping you recognise the basic characteristics of an image.

You see the histogram first on the camera and then in Photoshop when processing the image.

Here are my selection of pictures.  I will scan in my hand sketches at the end.

Sketch of Histogram

I have shown the histogram of both the Lightroom histogram, and the one on the camera.  There are slight differences.
In the first image there are a few dark clippings to the left, which don't show on the camera histogram.
In the second image there is quite a difference between the two with the histogram staying more to the left on the camera.
In the third image there is a slight difference.. the camera histogram is a little flatter.

With this picture there are a few clippings, and the camera histogram is quite flat.
The second picture, there is a slightly smaller incline.
and the third, their are bright clips to the right and is similar.

Sketch of histogram

The first picture the histogram on the camera has a slightly more prominent peak and slightly to the left.
The second picture, both are about the same.
And the third picture, the peak is slightly more central.
