PORTRAITS
I went on a days course this week to Calumet Photography at Euston. It was a portrait course, which I very much enjoyed. I was the only girl there and there was a high percentage of pensioners, but a nice crowd and everyone was friendly.
My main reason for booking it was that I had bought my self some lights and wanted to take portrait style photos, but then wasn't too sure what to do with all my equipment. It is easy when someone shows you rather than read a book which sometimes doesn't make sense.
I did learn a lot, some of the information doubled up but I find that all courses cover something that you have done before. That I do find frustrating. Anyway this course i found very informative and hopefully now I can use my lights.
We learnt about the seven lighting techniques ..
Rembrant
Paramount
Broad
Short
Loop
Split
Modified Butterfly
We also had a model ( see below ) and we were able use the above lighting situations which was great.
We were also using Pocket Wizard trigger / meters.
Jayce (tutor ) also had a WiFi SD card and an 'App' on his Ipad, which loaded his photographs wirelessly .... this was no good for me at the moment as I dont have SD on my camera ... will have to upgrade !!
I now know what light meter I want - its a new one coming out very soon apparently. Also I learnt about my speedlite flash and how to use off camera and various other functions on there. All too much for my small brain.
So I had an enjoyable day, learnt lots and just now have to put all I have learnt into practice, when I find myself some willing or unwilling models...
