Alain Labouile - Waiting for the postman

http://alain.laboile.free.fr/

I will most definitely be coming back to this book in the future. I love these photos..  I came across him on facebook, via someone else who was following him.  I bought the book and its full of wonderful images.  Black and white seems like it should be simple, a quick conversion.  Some of my black and white shots I like really light and always end up making them lighter but here Alains photos are in the majority very dark and grainy, which I really like but never seem brave enough to do with my photos.

In this book the preface was written by Gerald Vidamment and he says :
'I can assure you that this little heaven well and truly exists. It is just on the other side of the edge of our world. Very close, after all.'

These pictures by Alain Laboile are apparently all taken at their home and garden in France, which looks like a wonderland.  He has a family of six and these pictures are his family album over the years.
He says he always has his camera to hand and keeps it out of reach of 'little' hands..  However some are clearly staged and the poor cat gets dragged in on the action, not always willingly I should think.

The children seem completely unruly, bordering on wild, often unclothed and mud covered, not because they are poor, just free to have fun.  My children would be wearing freshly pressed clothes to play in and the mud wouldn't pass their nails.  These children are too free for my liking, but that is probably the attraction - slight shock and intrigue.  It would be nice to be like them, not fussing about the house, car or garden, letting them do as they please, being free..

The pictures have a very french feel, warm summers, I really love this style and have added a couple that I like. Its hard to capture such shots, I'm in awe...

Images of the Suffolk Coast - John Curtis

I probably have 8 of these little books, I really like the style of photography its quite simple but effective
They instantly give you a feel for an area that is being photographed.  Very descriptive, snippets of town or city.  This one is of the Suffolk Coast, the front cover is of the iconic beach huts and lighthouse of Southwold.
This poor book has been chewed by my puppy !! - which is very annoying ... as I like my books to be in pristine condition... thankfully the inside survived the teeth and reveal beaches, boats, historic buildings..

I like the simplicity of these books, nothing too over processed.  I have stayed at Thorpness and have my own pictures of the Meare, and I like the Wallberswick picture, it has an old english feel and is just how it is when you visit.  I also like the pier picture - Im sure I have taken one like this myself.

I would like to make a book like this one day, cute.. The back page, I think is of Aldeburgh beach and I have a similar picture in my bathroom not taken by me but by Tony Pick.  He is a local photographer based in Aldeburgh and he has a sweet gallery in the High Street.. Bliss
