FINAL 12 PICTURES FOR ASSIGNMENT
I had a lot of pictures to choose from, 180, and made a short list of 15. These 15 gave me a good overview of the actual Chelsea Show, and gives a feel of all that is going on during the day. Although there was no specific pictures to take I have kept in mind that I would be using these pictures for an advertising project. I wanted to show the colourful people and gardens, celebrities, pensioners. Im pleased with the photos that I have, they would have been suitable for a client.
I feel that for this assignment I have worked orderly and had a good workflow. It is how I have worked in the past so felt quite natural for me, and I like to be organised. However saying this - battery charging was an issue for me in the beginning - forgetting to do it on a regular basis. I have overcome this thankfully.
For me the picture taking of this assignment was relaxed as no specific spec. But I am unable to return to Chelsea for any retakes so that maybe a problem, but as this assignment doesn't go to assessment im hoping it will be OK. I have taken plenty of shots so have an army of standbys.
I found this an enjoyable assignment.

Exercise : Editing
COMBINED WITH WORKFLOW TWO / FRINTON SHOTS
EDITING
I am going to use the photographs I have taken in Frinton for this exercise.
Step One
The technical edit
I have taken 65 shots which I have imported to Lightroom and flagged any fuzzy images or if there is composition that you don't like and any that you really don't want for your final selection. They have been reduced by 21.
Step Two
The Selects
These are all those that are technically fine - along with any that Im not sure about at this time, or two that are similar maybe and you cant choose between them yet. They have been reduced to 15.

The ones I removed, I either didn't like, or the scene was cluttered, or I preferred an alternative view.
Step Three
The First Selects
These images are left behind after the seconds, or second selects.

Step Four
Group & Preview
Put all the first selects together and review your choice - make sure you have made the right choices.
Step Five
A Final Choice
I have chosen these two final shots from the first selects.
For me this picture sums up Frinton. The lovely beach and sea, with the promenade lined with colourful beach huts. The sky also reflects the turbulent spring weather, the tone makes the picture a little chilly, which is how it was, chilly.
My second picture also sums up Frinton. The beach hut owners here have opened their hut after the winter to air the chairs and sunbeds. They tied their dog up to keep safe and he was watching them as they worked. I waited until they were in the hut so he looked on his own, and there were no passers by at the time which made him look more lonely. But it was a sign of the British seasons, at last the prospect of warmer weather, the Brits are always optimistic... especially beach hut owners.

Exercise : Histograms
HISTOGRAMS
The purpose of this exercise is to familiarise yourself with histograms by relating each one to the image you have just taken, helping you recognise the basic characteristics of an image.
You see the histogram first on the camera and then in Photoshop when processing the image.
Here are my selection of pictures. I will scan in my hand sketches at the end.
LOW CONTRAST
IMG 6482 - Average
IMG 6483 - One Stop Darker
IMG 6481 - One Stop Lighter
Sketch of Histogram
I have shown the histogram of both the Lightroom histogram, and the one on the camera. There are slight differences.
In the first image there are a few dark clippings to the left, which don't show on the camera histogram.
In the second image there is quite a difference between the two with the histogram staying more to the left on the camera.
In the third image there is a slight difference.. the camera histogram is a little flatter.
AVERAGE CONTRAST
IMG 6498 - Average
IMG 6499 - One Stop Darker
IMG 6500 - One Stop Lighter
Sketch of Histogram
With this picture there are a few clippings, and the camera histogram is quite flat.
The second picture, there is a slightly smaller incline.
and the third, their are bright clips to the right and is similar.
HIGH CONTRAST
IMG 6496 - Average
IMG 6497 - One Stop Darker
IMG 6495 - One Stop Lighter
Sketch of histogram
The first picture the histogram on the camera has a slightly more prominent peak and slightly to the left.
The second picture, both are about the same.
And the third picture, the peak is slightly more central.
